He insists we install the engine with the manifold/intake off. To me this is plain stupid considering those little triangular washers are a pain to attach while the engine is in. Does the manifold/intake make it easier to tilt the engine to line it up to the tranny? I would think that the intake would be a good leverage point. He's affraid that the stuff will be in the way of the motor mounts even though its visibly evident that the installation will be easy as pie with everything bolted up!...

I have found it easiest in a narrow body valiant to have the manifolds on. I also like to leave the drivers side engine mount off the block until i get the motor in position. Its easier for me to bolt this mount on once i get everything in place.

I always put them in with the manifolds on. Those triangle washers are a pain to get in the middle spots. I only leave the manifolds off if I am using headers.

I used to think like your dad and installed my engines without manifolds or the cylinder head. Last year, I installed the engine with head and manifold attached and found it to be much easier. And yes, leave the drivers side mount off until you have everything lined up- that helps too. I have R&R'ed a lot of engines in my 28 years of working on cars, and the slant six is the easiest.

Your right, it is "easy as pie" to install the engine with the manifolds bolted on. (and almost everything else for that matter, including the tranny)
In fact, it's so easy, even a "child can do it", even with a big old Hyper-Pak intake hanging off the thing!

Thanks for reminding me Dennis,I knew there was some reason that I put them in with the intake off.
