I have been having some problems with my steering. I found that my pitman arm was mounted incorrectly which fixed the problem of having more turns of the wheel in one direction than the other.

The steering has felt loose since i had the car aligned. It was tight before that. Now i can turn the wheel about an 1/8 of a turn to each side of center with no response. I do have some slack in the coupler above the steering box but i believe there is some slack in the box as well. This is a brand new steer and gear 20:1 box. It probably has less than 250 miles on it.

Should my box need adjustment now that it is "broke in"? And how do I remedy the slack in the coupler above the steering box?

I am separated from my service manual so I have to turn to you guys for these probably simple answers.

Sounds like you need to rebuild the coupler. You can get a kit to do so from the dealer. The only problem is if the housing is worn.

If there is play in the steering box itself you need to find out where and follow the service manual's adjustment procedure. Having said that the new or rebuilt box should not have play. I don't know about Steer and Gear, but Firm Feel has oversize ball bearings they select fit to the box to account for wear.
