This is something new to me.
I love this site.
How do you get the tubes out after you remove the plugs?

The spark plug tubes are only present on cylinder heads made through 1974. '75 and up heads don't have them. But if you're working with a '74 or earlier head, sometimes the tube will be "glued" in place by the cooked O-ring. In that case, usually sticking a finger into the tube and exerting sideways pressure at the inner end will break it loose so it can be withdrawn.

Mine were extremely easy to extract. I simply removed the spark plug and stuck two fingers in the tube, gave it a wiggle and it pulled right out. I had one sticky one, behind the alternator. I just used duct tape (adhesive side out) on my finger for extra grip. Worked like a charm.
