Hello,

I just got some 14*6 (5 on 4 inch bolt pattern) Cragar S/S mags for my 63 Dart /6.

I've got the correct lugnuts (7/16 left and right hand thread, .80 shank length, .58 shank diameter, 7/16 20 tpi, etc..).

The wheels fit fine on the back, but on the front the little balance weights on the perimeter of the brake drum are interfering with one of the "spokes" of the mag. Thus the mags didn't "seat" properly and I could not safely install them.

Has anyone run into this problem before? What is the cure? Are there special washers that are used to offset the wheels from the drum enough to clear the drum weights?

I was soooo looking forward to having some real good tires on my car (I'm running 185 80 13's right now). Traction is limited, to say the least!!!

Help!

k

I had the same problem and I knocked off the counterweights without any problems.

Yes - that's what I'm thinking too - looks like they are jsut held on with spot welds - I might also do what DD suggested and just grind away the actual part of the weight that interferes with the wheel spoke...

When you did it - did you use a cold chisel and a hammer (that's what my dad suggested)???

Did you have to have the wheels dynamically balanced on the car?
