i've got a 66 barracuda with the super six in it without the kickdown linkage installed(previous owner did the swap 20 years ago) and i think the A727 in it. The car has been shifting fine in the past and recently it started to do a hop thing when you reverse and between 2nd and 3rd it seems to not want to upshift. When you drop it into second and then back into third it will go ahead and shift up. Any ideas what's causing it and how to fix it?

Probably a 904, not a 727. Running without a kickdown linkage will greatly aggravate and accelerate wear on the clutches, so the symptom you're experiencing is likely the result of running without a kickdown for an extended period. That said, how long has it been since this transmission was serviced? Fluid and filter changed, bands adjusted?

You really need a kickdown working properly...

i've had the car for 4 years and it's never had a kickdown on it. however the car didn't get much use until a few months ago when i made it my driver. the fluids/filter was changed about a year ago and are still red and full. one of the other guys on here advertized a kickdown linkage in the sale forum and i contacted him. haven't heard anything from him though. Another problem with a kickdown is that i don't have the Carter BBD on it anymore. i'm running the Carter AFB. will the linkage still bolt on if i do get a new one?
