 Post subject: Doug..Dual Dutra Duals??

Doug, have you ever made a similar manifold for the back 3 cylinders? I live in Central Fla where cold weather drivibity has never been a problem. It just don,t seem to me the the back section with the heat riser intack has very good flow characteritics. I read an artical someone posted about welding a plate under the intake manifold and running hot water though it. Should be plenty of heat for down here. It rarely gets below 30 degrees here. It also seems like the exhaust pipe routing would be alot easier, going over the starter. What do you think?

Yes, with the latest version of the Dutra casting, we can set-up the manifold to be used on the rear 3 cylinders.

There are a number of dis-advantages to this, you named most of the issues such as no carb heat, no auto choke "stove pocket" and starter clearance. The new "mini-starter" allows pretty good clearance, the larger "old" starter is in a little closer and makes pipe routing more difficult.

I have this "dual duals" set-up on my drag car now and I will do some testing these weekend. I will letyou know how it flows.

Im with chris on this one, how much for the manifolds, is there a NICE GUY discount? Or a, trade value? just kidding, but I do have a clifford 4brl intake ill trade ya, lol

The price that Mr. Dutra quoted me recently was $225.

I have a Dutra casting on the front, and a modified factory manifold on the rear, but I like the idea of "Dual Dutra Duals". The only thing that really concerns me is the loss of carb heat. It might not be a big deal here in Texas, but this car is my daily ride, and I'm well acquainted with "Murphy's Law"! LOL

But, I'll bet that there is a way to compensate for the loss of carb heat. I'm going to save up for one of these manifolds anyway.

Wes,

One way to compensate for the loss of heat is to use Clifford's water heated 4bbl manifold. I haven't tried one yet, but it seems like a nice unit.

Lou,

Thanks for your response. Well, I already have an Offenhauser 4bbl manifold, so I'm going to try that first. It might not be that big of a deal, its hot most of the time here in Texas, but we'll see. I almost have enough saved up for the new Dutra manifold, I'll let you know.
