 Post subject: new owner questions

Hi , I just Inherited a 79 Custom with a slant six. I am trying to find out a little basic info onthis motor. We pulled the intake/exhaust off of it Saturday and found the exhaust was broke in to two pieces. I saw that some use a mopar header combo, some use a clifford combo. We want ours to be just a good daily driver right now. I would just like to know what is the best way to go.Stock intake/ exhaust or aftermarket

Hmmm. Being that it's a '79, I'm guessing it's a two-barrel intake/carb. If it's not, you're going to have to split the intake/exhaust anyway, I'd recommend looking for a two-barrel setup in the salvage yards while trying to find the exhaust. This conversion would give you better performance while still being a decent daily driver.
If you swap to a two-barrel, you'll need intake, carb, air cleaner, and especially throttle/kickdown brkts & linkages.
Your other options are; Headers...can be pricey if buying new.

Dutra Duals....possible option, can be pricey,depending on where your stock exhaust is broke. This would consist of (maybe) modifying your broken exh. casting, and purchasing one new casting from Doug Dutra. This setup gives you actually two exhaust manifolds, one on the front three, and one on the back three. It will add a bit more horsepower, but also requires an additional pipe running out back.
Slants have a penchant for breaking that long exhaust manifold, so it could be a toss-up by just replacing your stock setup back to original. BTW, you might want to take a close look at those studs...the ones holding the manifolds to the head.

Junkyard today says that they have what I need for about 75 bucks is that a fair price?
