 Post subject: 1980 Volare'
PostPosted: Mon Aug 27, 2001 4:59 am
I just purchased a low mileage( 48,000)1980 Volare' coupe. Factory AM/FM stereo, dual remote mirrors, "tuff" steering wheel, wire wheel covers, cloth seats, rear defroster, 225 AT(oh boy , 90hp with Calif. smog crap), PS, PB. No AC(good thing..robs power!). Needs a few cosmetics. (old lady final mishap perhaps before hanging up the keys). most notibly I need a right front headlight surround and running light. Have not checked local yards yet(San Jose area). Nothing on e-bay. So if you got one or know where one is , let me know!
Also , any speed secrets to get a little more power ? Visually the smog crap has to be there, but as long as it passed I don't care. Hotter plugs? K&N air filter?. Any I deas?

Is your car the one with the square / rectangular headlights? If so, that "feature" was only used in 1980. All other year Volaré's had round headlights. Good luck, you'll need it on that one.

Also.....to make a "e" with the accent mark over it like this "é" ......press and hold down the "alt" key then press 130 on the numeric keypad (NOT the numbers across the top of the keyboard)when you release the "alt" key the character magically appears !! However perhaps this will mess up a search for Volare or Volaré ??

Kevin,

Good find! I have a 1980 Dodge Aspen sedan. Finding some parts for this car might be a problem, as mentioned. You might actually try the local Plymouth or Dodge dealer. Some dealer somewhere in the country might have one sitting in a dark corner of the parts department.

You might get a nose to fit from an earlier model, but you'd have to replace the fenders and hood too. They were different for the '80 model, and the '76s and '77s had the front turn signal/running light in the bumper instead of next to the headlight.

As far as performance, the best "bang for the buck" is to find a two barrel carb. Look for them on pre '80 Aspen/Volaré cars, mostly wagons. Grab the carb, manifold, throttle linkage, and kickdown linkage.

Have fun,

John

Yes, I have done a 2bbl conversion before on a '73 Duster with a manual trns. Also at the same time I used one of the hand made original Dutra Dual manifolds. However ,there was less JUNK in the way on the Duster. It is not , however, out of the question.

There is a set of headlight bezels for sale on Ebay right now. The will fit the '80 model F-body.
