I have bought an electronic air fuel meter that uses a heated O2 sensor, it came with a weld in bung and cap. Could I drill and tap the exhaust manifold for the sensor instead of using the weld bung? The spot I like is on the right side just above the flange and below the heat riser and pointing straight back. Would doing this shorten the life of the manifold by causing it to crack? Did Chrysler ever produce a /6 with an O2 sensor? What thread/tap does O2 sensors use? Any thoughts or advice?

Yes, Chrysler did use an O2 sensor on some Slant 6's in the 1980's. I think they mainly were on California emissions equipped cars and trucks. The mounting location is exactly where you want to mount yours.
It's possible Chryco may have changed the exhaust manifold casting slightly in this area to provide a boss to drill and tap the manifold.

Yep, the real late SL6 exhaust manifolds have a boss for the O2 sensor, most are already drilled, tapped and plugged. Look on the rearward wall of the heatriser area, to the engine side of the heatriser valve / flap shaft.
