The slant 6 from my 68 dart is in the machine shop with a spun bearing, worn head and rockers. I also have another slant 6 in the garage. I know that later years came with hardened valve seats and no spark plug tubes(?). Are there other diffrences? Would a later head be preferable to an earlier one? I dont know what year the motor in my garage is. It has black valve covers with a "902" sticker. A carb with alot of wires and stuff on it( for emmissions?). Also a 5 blade fan and on the intake manifod it says no more than 10 ft lbs on the bolts or you will screw it up. Can someone give me a guess as to the year? Would the head bolt to a 68 block? Thanks in advance Byron scspence71@aol.com |

Take the valve cover off and see if the rockers have adjustable rocker arms. If they dont then its prob a 1981 or NEWER motor. If its a 1980 or OLDER i would use the head on your new motor if its in good shape... Quote:

Looks like they arent adjustable rockers. Can i use hydraulic lifters in my motor? Would i have to to use the head? Are there any design difrences that would make a later head more desireable, besides hard seats. I took the head off, it looks good except the water passages. Can these be cleaned up at the machine shop? Thanks Byron P.S. my 68 head is toast(needs alot of work). Quote:
