Is the factory nylon ditributor gear a weak link? Is steel or bronze available? Pro's and con's of each. THANKS. |

The factory nylon pinion is not a weak link at all. They routinely last for decades. Metal pinions are out there (costly) if for some reason you've gotta have one. |

Remember, on a V8, the distributor gear also drives the oil pump. On a slant six, it doesn't have to spin anything besides the distributor as the oil pump runs on a separate gear. |

I broke the nylon gear once when I took the distributor out for the first time. It went bad anyway so no loss on my part. |

I broke a few of them before I realized the distributor was broken too. |
