Where is the proper location for the coolant sensor? There are two installed on my car. One is install on the leading edge of the head in a bushed down half inch pipe thread opening to the water jacket that has a metal thermal carrier to a cheap aftermarket tem. gage. The second is just threaded into a bolt hole on the forward end,carb side, of the head adjacent to the valve cover with the factory pickup, just a few inches from the first.

You describe the correct location but I’ve only seen one sensor there. Here is a picture that may help:

Thans for the nice view, and the proper location. This is the spot the crappy after market junk is located. It shall be fixed.

Sadly, that isn’t my engine bay. I didn’t have any pictures of mine with a good angle of the temp. sender. One day maybe... But mine looks more like this right now:
