Hello All:

I have a '73 225 Slant Six and am wondering if anyone can help me identify what this inline fuse is for. As you can see from the picture, it's located just inboard of my brake cylinder.

Also, on occasion the car will not start in Park, but when I shift to Neutral, it starts right up. There seems to be no rhyme or reason for this, and it seems to occur without a pattern. (I know these two issues are unrelated).

Are you certain there is a fuse the there? It looks like a connector to me. And by the size of the wire it looks like the feed to/from the battery.

Ditto what Josh said. Looks like the main power supply to the dash, fuse box, and ignition circuits.

That looks like someone replaced the fusible link with a fuse.

Nope, that isn't a fuse replacing a fusible link. My brother's 74 Duster has that same connector and I have seen many other mopar cars, trucks, and vans from the 70s and 80s that have that same connector on either or both the alternator feed to the battery or the battery feed to the fuse box/dash.

That's the neutral safety switch at the driver's side rear above the tranny pan rail.... If your linkage is off just a bit the comb and detent in the switch may not make the correct contact and prevent you from starting the car, I've also seen it where the 3 prong plug was a bit loose not allowing proper contact.

Does the black wire's covering feel like it is made from silicone? If so, it is a fusible link. I have seen those connectors with fusible link wire and a blade terminal where it goes into the firewall connector. There is usually a 'flag' molded into the wire identifying it as a fuse wire, but they will break off over time.

If you follow the wire down it looks like the flag of the fusible link is on that wire.
