I have a 1945 carb on my 225. There is a hose that come from the carb to under the air cleaner. When I disconnect the hose my car runs much smoother and my idle speeds up a little bit. Should this be happining?

Your creating a vacuum leak. That hose runs the hot air valve in the snorkel first thing in the morning.
Your carb must be running pretty rich. I would adjust the float level per spec..

Yep, you definitely need to find and fix the cause of your carb's maladjustment. Could be as simple as an improperly-set idle mixture (most likely, since the adjustment screw is right out in the open for anyone to play with), could be a float set too high or a float set to the proper level but soaked with gasoline (heavy)...how long since you went through this carb with a rebuild kit?

I must have adjusted the float wrong. I did it a few months ago.

Here is the Holley 1945 operation and rebuild manual (pdf).
