I just bought a 1970 d-100 1/2 ton. it just has a single brl set up. I had a major exhaust leak between the manifold and the head and between the intake and exhaust manifolds themselves. so I took them off the head, separated the intake and exhaust and of course all 3 bolts snapped. I gave them to a machinist buddy of mine and he checked too make sure they were straight. they were good except between the intake and exhaust, it needed filing. we drilled out the broken bolts and put it insert threads. everything was going good, I had the manifolds finger tight, put them on the head, snuged up the nuts that hold the manifolds to the head, but when I went to torque the bolts that hold the manifolds together (25 ft lbs)the back bolt broke the casting on the exhaust manifold at about 21 ft lbs. money is a bit tight right now, otherwise I would go with the Dutra
duels. now I found a 2 brl set up (that is all that makes up a super six right?)at a wrecker, but all the wreckers say they sell the intake and exhaust manifolds as one piece. still bolted together because of the same problem I had of the bolts breaking. the guy at the wrecker says I can leave them together and just bolt them on the head. this goes against what I have read on installing the manifolds. but is he right can I do this or do you have any other solutions. (the cost on the super six setup - intake, exhaust, and the two brl carb is $175 Canadian, $125 without the carb.

I've bolted them back on with out taking them apart before. As long as the joint/gasket between the two manifolds is good I do not see a problem.

It's been a long time since I've taken the manifolds apart but I just heat up the two ears (to red with a torch) with the bolts threaded in them and carefully work them loose and screw them out. I may have let them cool down slightly so as not to twist off the bolts? Don't remember for sure now.
