OK.....so I got my race car coming together....and I changed the filter and gasket in the used tranny I got from a fellow "Killer Bee", When I pulled the pan, it was a bit "strawberry milk shake colored" so I thought that it might have gotten a little water in it as it sat in my back yard waiting for the drag car .Well, I got some fluid into the trans,and got the car started, and while checking my new fuel system and stuff realised that fluid was coming out of the front of the trans bellhousing area.After spending many hours fabricating brackets to get a Nissan radiator mounted, and hoses routed into the 62 Valiant.....I lost my head of steam. Any one have an idea what may be wrong? Was told the tranny worked....but this may set me back.I called my buddy Woody, but thought I might pick everyones brains to see what we can find out to fix this fast!!

From the FSM, Check for overfill condition, then check the Torque converter drain plug. 110 Inch-Lb.
Next is:
1. Converter Hub Seal
2. Pump housing O'Ring
3. Pump to Case bolts
4. Oil leakage from Vent
5. Kickdown lever access shaft plug
6. Converter
a) Converter weld leak outside diameter
b) Front pump hub weld
c) Crankshaft pilot hub weld
d) Converter Drain plug.
6 a through d appear on the engine side of the converter per the fsm.

Ceej......there isn't alot on there that I can do, I may have to lean heavily on friends......I will call the guy who owns a tranny shop down the street also. Lets hope I can get this thing going well enough to race safely.

How bad is the leak, slow drips or a steady stream of fluid?
On other thing to add to the list, a cracked converter hub. Usually the hub will crack right off one of the corners of the square pump drive slot cuts.

9 out of 10 times, ATF out the front is from a worn front pump bushing which allows way too much fluid to get to the front seal.

Doug, its a good stream......not a river, but a really good trickle.May call you to see if you might have an extra trans around......would like to race the car!!

Pull-out the trans, remove the front pump and take it to your local trans shop. Have them install a new front pump bushing and front seal.
Inspect the convert hub for cracks / damage, if everything checks-out, reassemble and install the unit, that should fix it.
