J. Spiva at polybushings.com is gearing up to make us good polyurethane spools for the '73+ slant-6 engine mounts, per this thread. All of the '73-up passenger car slant-6 engines are said to take the Anchor #2376 low-quality rubber replacement spool, which is round in cross section. However, the NOS '80-'83 spool-and-bracket assembly we sent to Spiva contains an oval spool, not a round one. So, there are questions! Do they start out round (per the Anchor 2376) and are forced into an oval hole? Or are there two types of spool and an incorrect consolidation in Anchor's catalogue? The spool itself was never serviced as a separate part; Chrysler wanted you to buy the spool-and-bracket assembly.

Also, Spiva wants a good-condition through-bolt for this type of mount for dimensional accuracy in the repro. Anyone got one for offer?

I have some used, but original spool mounts in the garage along with the big bolt and I'm close enough to deliver to Mr. Spiva.

<edit>

OK, Mr Spiva is farther away than I thought, but still fairly close. I can box up and ship the parts and have them there in a day or two.

I know for sure that the transmission mount is oval. I thought the inserts were interchangeable with the motor mounts, but I am not positive. :?

Slantzilla: No, the trans spool is not the same as the engine spools, and the slant-6 engine spools are not the same as the V8 engine spools.

J225: Thanks! What's your take on the round vs. oval question? If the spool itself is all the same (and always oval), then he already has that part and just needs the bolt. If there are round vs. oval spools, then (A) he needs a good round one to model from, and (B) Anchor are telling lies when they say the round #2376 will fit all.

Dan,

I'll look at the parts when I'm home from work in a few hours and report my findings. As it stands I've never examined the mounts' shape closely at all. Watch here for photos!

The 1973 mounts I have use oval insulator bushings. I think sending this early factory example along with the bolt can only help our cause.

OK, well, your '73 is the first usage of that spool, and the '80-'83 part we sent him is the last usage, so I think it's safe to say they're all oval. Maybe I was just looking at the Anchor photo wrong, or they used a generic photo, or whatever. Anyhow, yeah, more sample parts are definitely better than fewer. Thanks!

It's better than sinking the $$$ into a set of chinese rubber mounts that aren't that great... at least they will be oil resistant, unlike the OEM rubber ones that seem to suck itup and slowly disintegrate...

Just as an FYI, I have a new set of anchor mounts on the Hpak duster... and the carb stud has already left a dimple in the hood after a couple of aggressive launches....
