Can I use a 904 trans that was behind a 360 on my 225 slant? I realize the bolt pattern is different, but can the bellhousing be swapped from the trans in my car to make it fit? Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but I don't know transmissions too well.....yet

Thanks in advance,

Nat

No, the bellhousing is cast into the case so there are different cases to accommodate the different bellhousing bolt patterns. If the 904 from the 360 is not lock up then it's the heaviest duty 904 series transmission made known as the 999. They are desirable for this reason and most of the HD internals will fit the slant 6 904 case. I used guts from a 318's 904, known as the 998, for my slant six trans build. Heavier duty than the slant stuff, but not as heavy as the 999.

Joshie225 is right. You have scored right there. You may want to hang on to that transmission for when you build your performance SL6, as a lot of the guts of the 999 will fit in the 904. The most obvious difference is the number of clutch plates and steels the drums will hold.

IIRC A-904 holds 3 and the A-999 holds 5.

What parts will swap between the two transmissions? Clutch drums, planetaries, valve bodies? Can anyone recommend a good overhaul kit?
Anyone know a good supplier of transmission repair/rebuild parts in or near Vancouver, B.C.?

Thanks,

Nat
