Post subject:  Engine won´t start with HEI

Hi there!

I wanted to put a HEI module in my Coronado. I have the original mopar module... but it didn´t work anymore... so.. i took the one in my GTX and it was working fine... but since I live in Argentina.. I can´t replace the original module easy... so I think changing to HEI was a good move.

The car was starting inmmediatly... no matter if the engine was cold or hot.

I took the 2 cables from the pick up and connected it to terminals W and G.

I took coil terminal + and placed it to the terminal B

I took coil terminal - and placed it to the terminal C

The engine didn´t start.

I placed battery + to the coil + so there is 12V everywhere... It didn´t start.

I inverted the W and G terminals... and it still doesn´t start... no spark.

Any idea????

Does the module have to be placed to ground??? it was in the air. Just for testing... the only thing i can think of....

PS: I have two modules.. one made in usa.. and one made in china.... all testing was done with de USA one.

The back of the HEI module must be grounded. Nice looking cars by the way!

If you look at the bolt holes on the module you will see there is a ground strap built into one of them. The screw going through that hole grounds the module. Some folks put a ring terminal and ground wire there. The back of the module needs to be attached to a heat sink with heat sink compound or the module will overheat and possibly burn up.

Remember to bypass the ballast resistor

Yeap! Problem solved... Was a ground problem!

Its working perfect.. even with the 0.6 ohm resistor! =)

Thanks for the help!

Bypassing the resistor will help the performance. The HEI module controls the coil current so the ballast resistor is not required.

Excelent!!! I hate resistors!

Spark is ¨longer¨ now!

Next step: Place the MSD 6AL.
