Going to a fun event in Missouri this weekend called the HAMB Drags. Takes place at the Smokin MoKan Raceway this Saturday.

We're racing (and I use that term loosely) our 63 Valiant. Street gears, street tires and a strong little 225 (4bbl intake, cam, headers, etc...).

What kind of times would you think we can hit? I think I would be happy if we hit the 17's. Should be a blast anyways regardless of times.

My 225 powered '67 Valiant 100 with stock cam, Holley 390 sideways on an Offy intake, ported head and a Chinese stock replacement exhaust manifold with 2 1/4" exhaust ran 16.86 once and will run 17.10 most days. The car is a 3-speed with 3.21 gears and 205/75R14 Sears Guardsman radial tires. Stock the car ran mid to high 19s.

Well, we had an absolute ball running the car. Made 3 passes with a best E.T. of 18.93 @ 76 mph. The car ran great and pulled really well once it ran out a bit.

With that said the auto and low rear end ratio (which is unknown) made the car a pig with horrid 60 foot times (2.8xx). That rear end gear has to be near a 3.00 flat or in that vicinity. 3 speed auto and we never even wrapped up 2nd. :lol:

We drove 1100 miles at about 85 mph and averaged 20 miles to the gallon for the trip. :lol:

Four words: high stall torque converter

Nice job.

Also, make sure timing advance is 28 - 32 deg at max mech advance. Too much advance really kills power on the 225.

I obviously want this car as a daily driver, but how does a stall do on a normal driver around town and such?? I could use some edumacation on that.

For any stall up to about 3000, it will not really make much difference at light throttle normal driving conditions. You will barely notice it. Then, when you stand on it, it will really GO. I was getting better than 20 MPG on my '68 Dart before EFI with a 3000 converter. FUN to drive...

I would shoot for a 2800 stall. Midwest makes a nice converter, as do several others. DO NOT spend less than $400, and make sure you get a unit that is rated for a Slant. If you buy a V8-rated unit, it will have to be rated at about 3600-4000, which will stall around 2600-3000 on a 225.

You will be amazed at the difference. Gains will be in the 0.5 - 1 sec range in the 1/4 if you tune it right after converter install. :shock: :o
