Post subject: Motor mounts-chapter 2
PostPosted: Fri Jan 11, 2002 2:07 pm
After a fruitless search for motor mounts for my '64 Valiant, I did a bit of research into getting them back into production.

I could not find a way to contact Anchor Industries, nor do they have a web site or phone number in the yellow pages. They must be a foreign company with US sales staff only.

Sealed Power will consider doing so, but says they need to redesign them, since all part number history has been purged from the company. That smells like big money! I'm sure they would need an order for several thousand parts to make it profitable enough to re-tool. I wrote that option off for the time being.

Then I called Schumacher Creative Services with the suggestion to either make a replacement part, or to design an adapter to allow us to use the spool-type mounts in place of the pad style. They were interested enough to take my name and phone number and said they would let their technical staff kick the idea around. Changing to the spool mounts wouldn't do any good for the repro guys, but at least we would have functioning parts.

I'll keep everyone informed.

I got this email from Blue Star (bluestar@icr.com.au) in Australia

Mike,
I assume you are in the USA? Here are some Chrysler part numbers for the
equivalent Aussie vehicle -
R/H side (passenger side)- 2264140
L/H side (drivers side) - 2265018
Do you have a way of checking those numbers against your requirements? If
not you could fax me a drawing of shape, dimensions etc, which would help. I
can supply these part numbers still, as a new item if they fit your
vehicles. Sending them over to the US is not a problem - let us know how you
go!
Regards,
Graeme Jenkinson

Great info! I tried to get on their website earlier today, but had server problems somewhere.
Those part numbers are even the original Chrysler numbers, so maybe they won't be the cheap Korean or Indian versions!

Do we want to try and get a mass order together? It could save us on the shipping. I'll probably order 2 sets if the price is OK.

Yep, the OZ mounts are indeed the correct part number and the right item. I don't know where they're made; I haven't ordered any (though I probably should for my '62). These are applicable for all Slant-6 '62 through '66 A-body cars (Valiant, Lancer, Barracuda), even convertibles which supposedly take a different mount but the regular ones work fine.

If I were going to have the mounts reproduced, I would look hard at a '60-'61 style "vertical shear" mount setup or (second preference) the later spool type mount. Both of those systems were superior to the soft and gummy "block of rubber" mounts originally on these cars, which tend to allow too much engine movement. Or, alternatively, I'd have the original style mounts done-up in a harder, urethane material.

If you communicate with Graeme at BlueStar, do tell him Daniel Stern sent you...he might even remember me!

I'm in for at least one pair if they're not TOO expensive.

Mike,
I would like to get 1 or 2 sets of these mounts, but will have to wait until next month, (this months car budget depleted).
I would ask that you post this info over at slantsix.com for anyone over there that might be interested.
