Hey Folks,

Well, here we are toward the end of another great year of Slant 6 racing.

Bristol was a hoot, with 17 cars and National Champ Glen Terry all the way from Oroville, CA! The cookout on Sat night was hard to beat! Homemade NC pork BBQ....

Our last race east of the Mississippi will be at the Mountain Park Dragway in Clay City, KY on October 4 and 5.

Slant eliminations (1/4 mile) will be on Saturday the 4th. Many other classes available at the Mopar Southern Classic car show/swap/race.

I'll be there, and most of the racers at Bristol said they're coming. Maybe some folks from points north, like OH, PA, IL (Zilla?), MI will come down?? I really hope so.

Dale Rose was saying he would probably try for the fastest doorslammer record at Clay City last time I spoke with him (9s). There is another long awaited fast car that may make an appearance too, at least for shakedowns.

Many of our historic Fast Four races were at Clay City, with some of the fastest passes ever made by Slant cars.

Thanks for thinking of me Lou, but I already tried to get a couple days off for that weekend to go out to Mike's. I was told I can only take my vacation a whole week at a time.

We'll see though. If I don't have to work that Saturday there is a miniscule chance I would pull down there.

Clay City is about 3 hours closer than Lexington.

Jim Cox showed up to Knoxville and again to Bristol. Says he might make CC too. He has a ton of super parts and hopefully will get back into building a car again sometime soon.

I just made a deal to buy Meril's little 225 Dak truck so I can tow dolly one of my cars and have two Slant race vehicles at some/all of the races I make. Try to encourage some new racers and get older racers back into it...

Lou, do you know what time on Saturday the racing begins? Does it start in the morning like Bristol, or in the afternoon like Knoxville? I only ask because I MIGHT be able to make it if the racing don't start till the afternoon.

You are in luck. Clay City starts qualifying and racing later than Bristol. I just checked schedule at mpdragway.com and there is a Mopar show flyer.

Saturday:
Gates open at 11 AM
Time trials start at 1 PM
Slant 6 elim start at 4 PM

The Annual Mopar Southern Classic will be held again this year at Mountain Park Dragway.
It's a Mopar only event with 1/8 and 1/4 mile drag racing, They have a car show, swap meet, and vendors row.

Ok everybody I have the trailer packed and ready to go to Clay City. Was worried about fuel but looks like things have eased up so I will be leaving on Friday morning. Everyone let make this a big turn out to show those BEES out West we can also have a crowd of racers. Everyone be safe and see you there. Norm

When I talked to Mike tonight he had already talked to Seymour. The race was 8 cars and won by my ol' buddy Possum Parker.

Oops, game of telephone there...

We did have only 8 cars. However, it was Rodney Hargis who took the win. Ol' Possum did not show up.

Many folks I thought sure would be there, were not.

We still had a great time, with a big feed put on by Elaine Foster, Ella Bruner and others. Elaine makes a mean Brunswick stew...

We were all running some FAST times, 0.3-0.6 faster than Bristol.

Was really nice to meet Mark in person finally. He tried to bring his 12 sec Valiant, but had troubles after last weeks t'n't session at MoKan.

Meril also went to the Semis in footbrake in the "Funny Truck."

I was happy with 16.30s-40s all day @82.5 or so, which was about 1/2 sec faster than Bristol, and the fastest the '68 has run since 2001.

Seymour was in the 13.90s @98 after a little tuning in his street car.

Just pulled in back home. I had a good time, good food, and good bench racing at Clay City. The Sixy Beast will be unrecognizable next year! And hopefully faster.

I just got home from Clay City. Went through Chicago and made the 800+ miles in 12 hours. Not only that but I averaged 23 MPG for the whole trip. That's driving 70-75MPH with a 3.73 gear and 64 degrees of overlap on the cam! Maybe if I baloon footed it I could compete with Aggessive Ted.

The race was great with perfect weather both days and many good friends on hand. The people at Clay City sure are extra nice to us, I hope we can turn out more racers if we go back next year. Truman Whaley of Southern Chemicals and Textiles contibuted a bunch of prize money for the races at Clay City, Bristol, and Knoxville. If you haven't already done so, you can send him a thank you Email at the address contained in the topic "Many thanks to sponsor for Knoxville-SCT write them" in the events section.

My car ran a lot better than it did at Bristol but not as good as it should have given the favorable conditions at Clay City. I need to get the Innovate wide band working so I can make more educated tuning adjustments in the short time you have at these events. I raced Ron Hamby in the first round and Ron walloped me on the tree .013 to .082.

It's always good to be home!
