I got a 68 Dart /6. It has the 5x4 13" rims and drum brakes on all 4 wheels.

1. Does anyone make a 13" tire that has the aspect ratio of the original bias ply tire? The tires I have now are like boat trailer tires and they have
a pretty short life span.

2. Does anyone make a 14" or 15" rim with the 5x4 bolt pattern?

3. If the above options are not available, is there a list of aftermarket or oem parts to upgrade to the 5x4.5 bolt pattern? If I do this should I switch
the front drums for disk brakes?

I have always heard the first step to better handling is putting more (high
quality) rubber on the road. My goal is to do the wheels/tires/brakes then
figure out the sway bars and shocks. I live in the DC area so I have to deal with ALL types of roads.

If your willing to go aluminum American makes a great looking 14 inch wheel under the Outlaw name. Super wheel for a late 60s look. If I remember correct it's in a 14X6 or maybe 7 wide.
Just double checked it's a 14X7, with 0 offset. Part # 624769 is the 5 on 4 inch bolt pattern.

Yes... Chrysler did back in the day... 14" steelies became standard equipment in '69/'70 if I remember correctly. At least on the A-bodies.

For aftermarket options, American Racing seems to have the most selection, I haven't seen alot of support lately (the last few years) for SBP mopar... at least where I live, and there are tons of A-body drivers in the Salem/Portland area. Most of them just stick with the factory steel 14"s.

The correct tire (diameter wise) is a 185 /80 13. But it's a bit wider than stock.


The easiest solution is later model steelies or rally wheels with the SBP (small bolt pattern)

The steelies are either 14 x 4.5 or 14 x 5.5

The rally is usually 14x6 and I think 14x7 is available.


For the 14 x 4.5 you need a 185 / 75 14 tire
the 14 x5.5 and 14 x 6 take a 195/70 or 205/70 14 to get the correct diameter.

The 14x7 would be a 225/60 or 235/60, but I'm not sure about tire clearance

I have a 66 valiant that I just put on American Racing Outlaw II wheels and P215/60R14 tires. These were the only wheel I could find in the 5 x 4 bolt hole pattern.

They look great and the fit is tight but they work fine. The wheels came from Summit.

I've got 215/70R14's in the rear and 205/70R14's in front on my 64 they clear just fine

Ive got 5 SBP ralleys. I think they are 14x5.5. Even the later LBP ralleys are 14x5.5. I've also got a full set of 14 steelies, not sure of the width as tires are still on them. I also have a set of alum slots (14x6) is SBP.

I'm switching the 69 dart to LBP, the 66 Valiant will most likely stay SBP. I'm not sure if the ralleys or slots will go on the 66. Undecided on that one.

I have 14x6 SBP Cragar SS rims on mine. I don't think they even make SBP wheels any more do they?

Man, I wish I could afford new ones! I got mine with the car, so they were basically free. But, they are starting to show their age.

I have the budget 14-inch setup, 195/70s on the 4.5-inch steel rims. It's narrower than optimum but seems to fit OK.

I did want to switch to 14 eventually, but I could not find ANY tire stores that had or could order the 13-inch tires these cars used. We bought a set about 7 years ago from Costco, but they don't have them any more.

If you are planning to upgrade the brakes, the best thing to do, would be:
Brakes first, either 10 inch drums, or better yet, front disc, and 10 rear drum. This will give you the 4 1/2 inch bolt pattern. Then do wheels and tires. There are many wheel/tire combos available for the 4 1/2 pattern in 15 inch or larger. I would not go with 14 inch wheels, as the selection of 14 inch tires is getting smaller.

Do a search on this site. There has been a lot of discussion on brakes/wheels/tires. Many options, just depends on your goals, and budget.

Thanks for the good links to wheels and tires. Looks like I'll be keeping the 9" drums as the backs are new and I'm doing the fronts now.
Money wise I'm thinking about 700 bucks to change out the wheels and tires to wider 14" rims. I would have to do this anyway if I changed brakes and spindles.

What would be cool is if I could find some original size bias ply tires!...
