Considering the recent max-rpm talk I have question. I've finished my 67 dart gt. It has the Mopar '528 lift cam, 600 holley, race springs, offy intake, Mopar header and dual 3inch exhaust with flowmasters. My 904 tranny has a 2600 stahl. I have a 8 3/4 I'm rebuilding for the rearend. What gearing would be optimal for a 225/70 r14 rear tire? I still want to drive it on the highway, as I'm planning to drive it to Moparfest this summer and that's 8 hours away! thanks Al. arollin@ctv.ca |

How fast do you like to go on the freeway, 55, 65, 75+ ?? The trick is to get the cruzing RPM over the converter's stall speed, do you know if this converter will *really* stall at 2600? My off the cuff answer would be 3.23 or 3.55 for highway / street use. DD Quote:

I plan on cruising about 60. I'm not sure what it'll really stall at. Thanks for the advice Quote:

DUAL THREE INCH EXHAUST ?!?!?! Don't you think that's a tad bit excessive? You'll lose low end torque like that. |

With that cam choice, I would normally say 391 gears, but 355 is the least. It would be worthless to install 323 gears. It will be so slow off the line, you will launch like a 19 second slant.....lol...this all just a matter of opinion, anyone else? Quote:

As far as dual 3 inch being excessive. I like the sound of a pro-stock car. Anyhow, I've given up on street racing and prefer cruising. We don't have a track near us anyhow. If I did run a car I have a big block that I'd punish, not my dear slant six! Al. Quote:

You know, when I put dual 2" pipes on my car, I thought that maybe they would be too big...but I really don't think it hurt low speed performance at all (I have no data to back this up). Plus, didn't anyone ever see those bumperstickers, "Loud pipes save lives"? pwd22@drexel.edu |

I'd go with 3.91's too, but I think the howl from the Flowmasters would drive me nuts! (Not that it would be hard to drive me nuts) I'd think the biggest drawback to that much exhaust would be all the weight. I have 2/14 on mine and can't keep it from collecting about a gallon of water in it every time I start it, and that is with a bunch of drain holes drilled in it. slantzilla@excite.com |
