 Post subject: 500 cfm carb?
PostPosted: Mon Jan 28, 2002 7:28 pm
I currently have a Holley 390 carb on my /6, the carb is in need of rebuilding. Would the Edlebrook 500 be a good replacement or rebuild the Holley? It is a '66 from a Barracuda. It has the Offy Alum intake, Clifford Headers, and a Crane 720791 cam. It is in a '41 Dodge 1/2 ton Military 4x4 with a 4.89 rear end ratio, 35" tall tires and a 904 Auto Tranny. What a combo, huh.

Any input would be helpful.

The 390 should be enough to get you to 5000 RPM given your set-up.
Go with the 500 if you want to rev it higher then that.

I shift the auto tranny at 4000-4500 rpm when I'm "cleaning out the carbon". 60 mph is about 3100 rpm in drive. I guess I wondering if the 500cfm carb would be to much at the low end and it would gag when I stand on it from an idle. The turbo thing interests me and I'm thinking in a couple of years when I get done with the rest of the truck, I might explore the possibilities of a turbo and the 500 would lend itself to that pretty good, maybe?

Thanks for the help.
