Well its time me and the '76 904 to get better aquainted, ie crack her open and inspect. Now I will be taking pics, when I bought the engine and tranny I was told they were running when pulled, I was not told till I arrived 40miles south that they had both been sitting for about 6years !!!! but ran when pulled, with a original *not rolled So after I drop the pan, and hopfully find nothing attached to the magnet, if it even has one, should I go full rebuild, or just a shift kit ? I know there opposite ends of the spectrum, but I am trying to this on a $300 or less budget. Should I up grade the kickdown lever to help with the upsifts *according to the MOPAR book*? I would like firm shifts, still retain the automatic portion, but be better than stock. I have read several where people have used different kits with mixed results. I would like to know whos uses what in their trannys, their experiences, anything they would have done different, etc. Just trying to get input on quality stuff, and not waste my money on junk. -Mike |

What's the goal? You can do a shift kit and see if that gets you what you want. TransGo is the only thing I'll use. |

Absolutley NOT. When you call today, ask my opinion on the trans work.

That was a good talk today Charrlie. I think I will decide after I take her apart and see what the internals look like, ie shavings in the pan, grungie looking filter, etc.going to get a nice giant concrete mixing pan from either home cheapo or lowes to tear her apart in, it worked wonders for when I tore apart my BB TF727 -Mike |

I found the TransGo TF-2 shift kit, on summits site, but it says no instructions are included in the kit. I will have to call and verify, but how hard would it be to install with out instructions ? -Mike |

I have a transgo kit installed in a '70 904 valvebody if you are interested. It is a manual shift forward pattern TF-3 I think. (still uses kick down) I think the kit alone was $100. |

My TF-2 came with instructions and I bought it just a few months ago. It would be nearly impossible to install properly without instructions. Whats the difference between the Transgo TF-2 and TF-3 kits? Whats the difference between Transgo and B&M kits? |

duster, price, quality, fine tuning. The B&M is cheaper but doesn't offer much in the way of options from the trans go site: TF-2 Torqueflite 60-up 3 speed Instant full-race shifts; Puts the driver in command. Goes back-to-low at any speed. Fixes 2-3 bindup TF-1 Torqueflite 60-up 3 speed Smooth Crisper shifts, improves durability. Puts the driver in Command. Goes back-to-low at any speed. TF-3 66-up 3 speed Stick Shift; Full-race; Competition, Off road and Pro-street. http://store.summitracing.com/egnsearch ... sku&RC=100 The concenceous leans *ha* toward the TF-2 which is only $49.95 through summit. and even says right on the site "Kits do not include instructions or installation video" Joshie where did you get yours from ? I have the TF904/727 Transtar teardown and rebuild manual, not only that but there is a trans star bout 8miles up the road from me and they are a transgo distributor, also will be calling them tomorrow for prices and availability. I still need some auto functions Shaker, and if its full manual, kickdown is not required. -Mike |

I can't believe they don't come with instructions.......... But I can see no video coming with them. Anyway, get your video here: (highspeed connection recommended) http://www.txchange.com/tgpvid.htm |

Basically it is the amount of shift "improvement". Years ago the transgo kit was just one kit, that allowed 3 different levels of improvement. "heavy duty" for towing, etc. It gave a firmer shift then stock "street/strip" Gave even harder shifts. It could actually be anoying on a daily driver. Kickdown linkage required on both of these. "Full race" A full manual shift. Will not shift automaticly. No KD linkage needed. It looks like they have now made them 3 different kits. |

Mine is full race but still retains the kick down linkage. |
