Hey whats the best combo for front and rear brakes that is a 5x4.5" lug pattern? I want to do front disc brakes and 10" rear drums (carbon metallic) from later mopars but am open to custom fabrication to fit corvette brakes or something.. Can i take the front end from a 73-80' Dart, Demon, or Swinger?

Thanks,

Aaron

Yes

You need the UCA , spindle , caliper and rotor off a 73 - 76 Dart etc

You also need the master cyl and prop valve

Get the rear axle out of the same car and you are set.

It took all day for me to disc brake my 65 with the 75 donor car beside it.

I don't know, these days I am leaning towards 10 inch all wheel drums for a daily driver. Less rotating mass and less drag. So long as you aren't autocrossing or towing a trailer all wheel drums should be fine. Adding a power booster wuld be even better.

Do the later year mopars have 10" drum brakes on the rear? Can the stock disc brakes be upgraded with bigger discs/calipers?

I have these hella old school Appliance wheels with spinner caps off of a 65' mustang i would love to use and would be a nice bonus to some real stopping power..

Well, the later drums were also 5 x 4.5 front and back. There are aftermarket upgrades for brakes, but unless you are doing some SERIOUS driving you will not need more than the stock 73-76 disc/drum setup.

I once parted a 74 Valiant sedan that had 11 inch drums on the rear, but that was the only one I saw. Ten inches is pretty common.

Just my opinion, for what it's worth. If I were going to the trouble to swap out the brakes I would definitely go with the front disks. It's true that the drums work and are perhaps adequate for light duty use but for the time, trouble and money I would do the disks.

I like the late-A 10.87" front disks I put on my '64 Valiant. If I need more, there's a set of 11.75" caliper adapters in my garage - just add rotors!

HERE are some options.

Out back, the easiest upgrade to a 4.5" bolt pattern is with a rear-end swap.

Actually, the late A-body 10" drums are also small bolt pattern. I bought a set just so I'd have spindles for my Viper caliper on 11.75" rotor upgrade. The spindles and rotors are mounted to my '72 Swinger. I still need caliper bolts, pads and pad retaining hardware.

I have Wilwood calipers and 11.75" rotors for my Valiant. Now that I think about it I'm just a pair of upper control arms away from having another late A-body disc brake setup.
