How do you remove the heater core and blower motor from the heater box?

Remove the heater hoses and nuts from the blower motor studs inside the engine compartment. Under the dash remove the control cables, electrical connectors and the rod inside the vent door that hangs the heater box from the dash. If I haven't omitted anything you can then pull the heater assembly into the passenger compartment and then out of the car where you can take of the clips and split the heater box to access the heater core and blower motor.

You can do the split in the car as well, I had to solder up my heater core in my 73 dart and didn't pull the whole box out. I had the blower motor and the core out though, there's less room under the dash in my van and I did the same in there, so you should be fine.

Well, another problem I found out was that the blower motor was wired up to an external switch, not the one on the controll panel. How can I hook the thing back up to the switch?

I have never used the heat in my car, the blower motor was bad when we got it. Its getting really cold here, I can't wait...

You may have to remove the cardboard glove box liner to aid removal & installation of the box.

Test the switch first to see if it works. Consult the wiring diagram, make up a harness if needed to replace missing wires that once went to the blower control switch using spade type connectors. Chances are good that the original connectors & wires are up under there somewhere.

Test your blower motor with 12v from the battery.

If you do remove the box, now is a good time clean it, and rebuild it with a restoration kit from: http://detroitmuscletechnologies.com/ They also have, if needed, the black cardboard panel that clips on the back side of the box where the heat blows from.

I would rebuild the box, but I just don't have the time right now. I am going to clean it, and what not though.
