Post subject: Hey Doc, piston question
PostPosted: Fri Feb 15, 2002 8:36 pm
Hi,
I was reading one of your articles on this site
'Slant Six Head & the Revised Combustion Chamber'
and I noticed the pistons you have pictured at the bottom of the article. They look like dished pistons, did you have them custom made? What compression ratio did you get with this set-up? I
have read a little on closed chamber heads and the quench effect so is this what you achieved with these pisons? Thanks, Shannon

Yes, that dish shape creates dual quench areas when used with a carefully machined, 68 and later head. Definitely a custom machinning job.
It is a challenge to get the piston up that high in the chamber, compression is a solid 13 to 1.
Here is the dish lay-out in case you want to give one of these combos a try.
