Can anyone recommend a good brand of crinkle finish paint? I want to do my valve cover. Also, any tips on application? I've never used the stuff before.

Thanks in advance,

Nat

VHT make a very good black, grey, or red wrinkle finish in spray cans. Application is pretty much like other paints: paint warm but not hot, parts clean-clean-clean and warm but not hot, multiple coats, keep the can moving, etc.

Read the directions on the can and follow them to the T. It's been a while since I've used wrinkle finish paint but as I recall you lay down the first coat and let it dry for a specified time then apply the second coat. The second coat shrinks when it dries to produce the wrinkle finish.

I put down a layer of Krylon black primer and then heavy wet coats (per instructions) of Krylon black wrinkle paint; it worked quite well and has lasted for years on my air cleaner. Generally, I've been very pleased with the durability of Krylon and far less so with some other brands.
