The previous owner talked about how the shift rods would jam up ,and sure enough once I got the vehicle off the trailer and rolled it to where it is,the shifter jammed up.

Whats the best way to remedy this? I was told to put metal washers in palce of the rubber bushings on the rods where they attach to the column.Anyone heard of this and how well does it work?

Second question is ,what tranny do I likely have? The car is a very, very lightly optioned 72 Swinger Special.

When I say lightly optioned I mean :

NO Options on the fender tag other than a Mirror and side body moulding.

It has rubber floor mat, manual steering and manual brakes,no radio.

Don't overlook checking the fluid level; if it is low, shifting can be very balky.
