Hey Folks,

Here is the way I see our season going in 2009 for the East side of the USA:

It looks like in the absence of other direction, I am the organizer for this year in the East.

I would like to see these locations in the East to maximize entrants from popular areas, AND make sure we reach out to some up and coming areas:

1) N. Wilkesboro, NC
2) Pittsburgh or Hagerstown, MD or some NE-ish location
3) Clay City, KY
4) Bristol, TN
5) Valdosta, GA
6) Knoxville, TN

We need to limit ourselves to 6 and maybe only 5.

The biggest bulk of racers out East will make Bristol, Wilkesboro, and Clay City and/or Knoxville.

Pittsburgh track has been a problem in the past, so we are looking at Hagerstown, MD as a possible replacement. This will serve NE folks and a few southerners who can go up.

Valdosta, GA serves FL, GA, NC and the SE and Charlie already has this set up.

I'd love to do a Farmington or Piedmont, NC but I haven't seen the interest and we don't want to dilute things too much. Columbus and MI races are out due to low car count last few years.

My hope is that some "core" racers from TN, NC, VA will go to one "far away" race in addition to CC, Brist, and NW. I will certainly do this, and have gone to Pitt and others in the past. Hope to make GA this year.

Kearney, NE is a strong possibility, and I've been talking with Mike J about 3rd weekend in August. This would be the first "All America" Slant 6 race and would try to draw from all over.

We will discuss these things at the banquet Jan 23-25 in Gatlinburg, TN and I hope to hear from people about these ideas on the site too.

We will need help in organizing races, so if you can help out, please let me know.

Thanks,

Lou

Valdosta is out. I did not recieve enough positive responses, and was unable to raise the $500 advance money in the time available. There would still be a possiblity as the time gets closer, but would need a 15 car commitment, and a minimum $500 up front cash purse. The Mopar association, then "MIGHT" allow a last minute addition to thier event. There would not be any info in their advertising.

Oh, I thought this was a done deal.

Personally, I think trying to coordinate with big Mopar events has been nothing but trouble.

CC events treat us like dirt. The best races are the ones where WE are a main attraction and are just part of a weekend bracket race. Bristol and Clay City are maybe the only exceptions.

Knoxville was phenomenal, and Wilkesboro is always great, even though there's no big event.

The West racers have this figured out already.

Lou

WOW!

I got in deep shyt with Seymour for saying that years ago before the present thieves took over. :?

I have felt the same way aboot Monster Mopar. The only way we ever got any respect there was when our sponsor Jeff Long pitched a bytch and threatened to not buy a spot on the midway. That lasted a whole year.

I personally enjoy the smaller, more laid back tracks.

I really don't have any useful input for ya Lou. It is another 18 months before my vacation time builds enough that I can take off and race a couple days at a time.

For what it's worth Everyone Seems to dislike the Pittsburgh folks. Which is not a problem for me.. I would like to move the race down to hagerstown and give it a shot there! I am guessing that their track staff can see and tell the tower If I have a big N written next to my dial.

Also For what it's worth I would try to schedule on a weekend that is not the same as Carlisle July 10-12 2009. I would love to hit a bristol race again, and the Wilkesboro race! especially if the gas stays were it is now or goes lower:)

I also dont see any races at columbus due to the fact that the one in may is hosted by CC ( i agree with the above comments made about these folks) and the other big race would be during the Mopar nats rich is an organizational nightmare

My $.02

Greg

Thanks for your thoughts, folks! We'll keep the discussions active and try to get the best schedule together.

I'm hoping that someone from PA or MD will help out with organizing the (maybe Hagerstown, MD) race up that way. Glad to hear you are into that, Greg!

Best,

Lou

This will be a transitional year. I hope we can put together a schedule that everyone will like and raise the attendance at every race!

FWIW, I plan to continue going to the NC meets. I am limited in time, so wherever I go needs to be a day trip.
Whether there is an official slant class or not, I plan to be at the Farm, Piedmont, and Wlkesboro this year.

The Mason-Dixon Dragway (Hagerstown) hosts a all mopar meet every year in May. I think it is May 10th in 2009. It is the Mid-Atlantic Mopar meet and is a smaller, all Mopar show. Maybe they would be interested in something for that weekend?
