After breaking the Guzzi engine in Redding,I have torn it down and rebuilt it,bad rod bearing and smacked valve, killed it due to low oil pressure at 6,200 rpm tru the traps, will be better prepared for Vegas I hope,,,,one lifter came out whole, and when i went to put it back in it was in two parts,Taller tires ordered so hopefully I will go tru the traps at 5,800 with 58lbs of oil pressure, tuneing begins tommorrow,Guzzi Mark

It's alive! Sweet! The broken lifter is surprising.

Great job! You might want to think about a rear gear swap too?

Dont have the money for a 4.10 set of gears, have 4.56 in it with 26 inch tires, will get a pair of 275 60 tires that are 28 inches tall, and beat up the body to make them fit,and change hangers to b body ones, and change out lowering blocks, and pinion snubber, and, and, and,,,,,,would like to be in the 13s around 100,at 5700 rpm.dont know if its possible with my combo ,but that is what i have stuck in my head, will be running the 2 barrel,Guzzi Mark

May I ask why are you stuck on lowering RPM?

I have run my junk for a long time turning it to 6400 with 52-55 psi oil pressure.

My shortblock has had pistons torched twice, and had a head leak water into the motor and still has the same bearings I put in it when I originally built the motor.

What oil you were using when the bearing went? I know of a couple new motor destructions that the common denominator was brand of oil.

Just parinoid, was running 10-40, dont remember brand, played with oil pump relief valve shims today,I think I want 55-60 lbs with the 10-30 Mobile 1 I will be putting that oil in tommorrow, had just over 50lbs with 20 -50,i put in for break in.
4 shim washers got me about 70 lbs pressure, with the 20-50. I removed 1 washer and will put in 10-30 and see where i am at.
I am probably overthinking and overly parinoid,,,and I know me,,,I WILL twist it over 6,000...only bent 1 valve on previous build, hit 6,400 a couple times by mistake.
This is my first time with performace car stuff,ANY sugestions and advice wanted. (and needed)Mark

nice job when you can fix it with most of the orginal parts. what valve pressures are you running? i had 149lbs closed and 390lbs at .500 lift, with 10-40 castol and 50lbs oil pressure, i had my 11.4comp engine shifting at 6500rpms and over the line at 6800rpms. valve/piston clearence was set at 0.095ths.

They are 340 springs that were just over a 100 closed I belive, think they are around 200 at 400 lift, would have to re check to make sure, they are higher than before,am at 10.7 compression,,with 60 over pistons,,,,drove the car home today and am cleaning it up,got my oil pressue at about 54 at idle hot with the 10 30 Mobile 1 in it,will adjust after I put more than 1 mile on it,Mark

after looking at your damage do you think the bearing failed first or the valve floated and touched the piston? what is the lift of your cam? i use 340 spring with my .490lift/276deg mopar cam , at that time i was running 26in slicks,4.56 gears and shifting at 6000rpms,mph was 93,i also had allot of slippage in my convertor,at the big end i would see 6500rpm`s running 14.20ets.

Think both happened in last two runs, seperately,,,lift is .465,taller 28 tires ordered today,275x60r15,s,as opposed to my 235x60r15s that were 26,stuffing the bigger ones is my next challenege,,pulled strong today over 5,500rpm,with over 50lbs of oil pressure, mark
