Post subject:  Good Coil for HEI

Hey guys, I was wondering if this coil is good to use with the HEI conversion. This is what I have on it right now. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

It'll probably work okeh, at least for awhile, but it's probably not the best pick. See the coil info in the HEI upgrade article.

Dan,
I found the part that you referenced in the article. are the holes in each corner mounting holes? This will be in a Dodge A100, so it would have to be mounted to the rear dog house panel.
Thanks,
Russ

I've been running a Mallory Promaster coil in my truck for the last six years and it's worked outstanding. This is with a Mallory ignition piggybacked to a factory Toyota system though. I've also got a new one (same part number) to try with the HEI ignition in my Duster. It's a big'n, and won't fit in the factory coil location (which I hate anyway), but now that the MSD Blaster 2 is being made in China and the Promaster is still US-made, I figured it'd be well worth trying. Only caveat is that it uses a male HEI-style ignition lead as opposed to the common female type. I've already got a set of Magnecor wires custom ordered to accommodate it.

I honestly doubt it'll offer higher performance per se, but I think I can achieve a much cleaner and more efficient installation with this Vs. a canister type coil, and it'll likely last longer than a new MSD would now anyway.

I'll be sure to post up my results when all is said and done.

Yes, they're mounting holes. There's a mount bracket used with this coil on all the cars that came with it.

Thanks,
Russ
