Was heating some bolts to free them up on a '83 truck manifold. Of course I am going to open up the ports and the exit!

The seams or casting ridges on the outside? Think they should be ground down? Would this help it survuve without cracking?

I smoothed mine down pretty well but I wouldn’t grind anything I didn’t have to. I just ground the sharp edges and casting boogers so it looks a little better and I don’t bleed as much installing it. I don’t think it will help cracking. Installing it with no stress on it, and so it can move freely when it expands/contracts will help more than anything.
