I have an opportunity to buy an aluminum shortblock, and wonder what it is worth --- the seller's description follows

Mint Rebuilt Chrysler Aluminum 225 Short Block, dates from 1960 to 1963. Rare Chrysler Stamped on Block. This one is a Early One, No Corrosion on the Inside, Very Clean. This Block is Fully Rebuilt. All New Internals. New Stock Cam, .040 Block and Pistons, .010 Crank. I'll Include a New Copper Head Gasket (correct one for aluminum block) New ARP Head Stud Kit, New Water Pump, New Oil Pump, New Gasket set, Used oil Pan and Used Timing Cover, Used Rocker-Arms, Used Balancer, Used Oil Slinger, and what ever else I can fint that will go with this engine. Block Manufacture Number Code is 12642. Serious inquires only this is a very rare block in this rebuilt condition.

I think a lot of the questions would be actual condition. Remember that one of the main concerns with an ALUM block is the block to head surface and the main caps. Also the water passages tend to get badly corroded which is hard to inspect on an assembled engine. Look to Doc and Lou (Dart 270) for condition/ pricing along with several others that enjoy playing with them.
I would NOT buy one to build a race motor out of however if its your intention to restore a 60-63 car it would be "cool".

I remember the first time that engine went across eBay. The seller was slow and vague in his responses to specific, easy-to-answer questions. Proceed carefully, but if the description is accurate, then his buy-it-now price of $1500 might not be too awfully far out of line. Consider that a generic "remanufactured" iron slant-6 long block will run right around that same cost.

It does look awfully nice and clean, and he states no internal corrosion, but you never know...

If you are looking for an aluminum engine then I'd say it's "worth it".
He has a 'Best Offer' option, maybe he'd let it go for $1,100.00...
