I have an 86 Dodge Ram D100. Got a new alternator and battery in March, and yesterday the battery was boiling. Distributor said it was my charging system and not the battery. My dash gauge AND my hand held voltmeter say the systems checking out at about 12.75 idle and 14 at speed. I can turn a wrench, but electrical mystifies me. Is this about right for charging? Is the battery rep just trying to pass the buck?

Try to make sure you have a good ground between the VR and body. Take it off and scrape the contact area real good. Some vaseline between the two can help prevent corrosion.
