Yesterday at Redding we had 16 cars show up. Out of the 16, I believe I was the only one that came home last night. I hear others may show up today. So they should have at least 15, and possibly more today for the points race. Sadly, I had to say goodbye to some of them, as I will be moving to GA at the end of June.

With 111 cars at the track that morning, it was decided we wouldn't do any serious racing. Instead we got two rounds of time trials, followed by racing any team member for the next three races. Some put up some money, others just bragging rights. But it was a blast. The Killer Bees had more cars than any other division there. Even the guy in the booth was impressed.

My day was made on the last run. Neither Tristen or I adjusted for the cooler weather, as we didn't feel the difference, until we ran down the track, and saw our times. I had the best time of the day with an 18.19. But in this race, Tristen had me the whole way. So much so, midway he started backing off. As I looked in his car, he was smiling ear to ear, as was I, as the rest of the way down the track, he was doing his best to match my bumper, but lead at the finish line. First off, it was a double breakout with him winning. But hang onto your socks now. How well did Tristen do, in keeping his bumper equal? At the line, it was too hard to tell. Photo finish would have called it almost equal. He beat me by .00105 of a second. Again, that one race made my day, as it was a blast for both of us. THAT is what makes it fun.

FOPAR surprised us this day, when his 54 Ford wasn't at the track. Instead he had a 63 Dart.

<a href="http://s303.photobucket.com/albums/nn133/bttfman/?action=view&current=Foparwithcar.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i303.photobucket.com/albums/nn133/bttfman/Foparwithcar.jpg" border="0" alt="FOPAR AND CAR"></a>

Yep, what a unigue slant six

<a href="http://s303.photobucket.com/albums/nn133/bttfman/?action=view&current=FOPARENGINE.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i303.photobucket.com/albums/nn133/bttfman/FOPARENGINE.jpg" border="0" alt="FOPAR ENGINE"></a>

Here is where he had our cars this time around. Unfortunately, we were spread out a bit more than usual. Since I was racing this time, I didn't get a photo of all the cars. But you will get a peek of what was there.

<a href="http://s303.photobucket.com/albums/nn133/bttfman/?action=view&current=CARLINEUP.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i303.photobucket.com/albums/nn133/bttfman/CARLINEUP.jpg" border="0" alt="CAR LINE UP"></a>

The orange Demon belongs to Tristen. My 63 Dart is next to his. Andrew's car with the new paint job is next to mine. Fopar's Dart is next to him. Jessicas car, Waynes car, and then I believe Rhonda's car.

Our staging lane wasn't anything like the 28 we had back in October. But it was still impressive.

<a href="http://s303.photobucket.com/albums/nn133/bttfman/?action=view&current=STAGINGLANE1.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i303.photobucket.com/albums/nn133/bttfman/STAGINGLANE1.jpg" border="0" alt="Staging Lane 1"></a>

<a href="http://s303.photobucket.com/albums/nn133/bttfman/?action=view&current=Staginglane2.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i303.photobucket.com/albums/nn133/bttfman/Staginglane2.jpg" border="0" alt="Staging Lane 2"></a>

And here is Randy, Andrew, and Tristen enjoying seeing Andrew's engine, that looked a lot different than last year.

<a href="http://s303.photobucket.com/albums/nn133/bttfman/?action=view&current=AndrewRandyTristen.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i303.photobucket.com/albums/nn133/bttfman/AndrewRandyTristen.jpg" border="0" alt="RANDY ANDREW TRISTEN"></a>

All in all, a fun day. I can't wait to hear about what their day was like today.

I am not sure. Maybe someone else could answer that, after they come back from the racing today.

<a href="http://s303.photobucket.com/albums/nn133/bttfman/?action=view&current=WAYNEARRIVING.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i303.photobucket.com/albums/nn133/bttfman/WAYNEARRIVING.jpg" border="0" alt="WAYNE ARRIVING"></a>

Here are PJ and Edd, plus Rhonda and Andrew having a nice conversation near PJ's car

<a href="http://s303.photobucket.com/albums/nn133/bttfman/?action=view&current=EDDPJRHONDAANDREW.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i303.photobucket.com/albums/nn133/bttfman/EDDPJRHONDAANDREW.jpg" border="0" alt="PJ EDD RHONDA ANDREW"></a>

PJ and Sergio had their cars just across from the rest of us.

<a href="http://s303.photobucket.com/albums/nn133/bttfman/?action=view&current=PJSERGIOCARS.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i303.photobucket.com/albums/nn133/bttfman/PJSERGIOCARS.jpg" border="0" alt="PJ AND SERGIO CARS"></a>

Randy and Glen were to the left of PJ's area. Edd is speaking to Randy.

<a href="http://s303.photobucket.com/albums/nn133/bttfman/?action=view&current=RANDYANDGLENCARS.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i303.photobucket.com/albums/nn133/bttfman/RANDYANDGLENCARS.jpg" border="0" alt="Randy and Glen cars"></a>

And by the way, this was the first time for me racing Dobie. Usually my Daughter Amy does it, like she will be doing this Saturday at Infineon. While I take the photos and videos.

Got back safely and will unload this morning.. Got a summer cold so will make this a "shorty" 16 cars which was really good for the current 'state of the economy'. The track was hot and the adjusted altitude over 3000#. Doug had one of those new Austrian aluminum intakes but was having problems launching. He will fill all in with his comments. Richard is now 6- carb Richard...Those Mikunis worked well. He was running in the low 15's after lanching in 2nd gear with 2:7 gearing and street tires. This car will be a low 14 second car next time around. Rhonda is no longer called "wait for the green light to go Rhonda:..now 3rd light Rhonda...She did so good...just ask Sergio ..who was making side bets with her...(He lost all he bet). He had most of his carb fixed and was getting just over 2 second 60 ft times..good going. Edd and PJ were running two classes and that took a lot of work. Their car is "beautiful.." Now just need Edd to figure of the "predictor" a little better. I was trying to get some seat time and see if my little "170" could do better 60 ft times. I got it at 1.85 the last run...Just doesn't have the HP of those big 225's Andrew and Jessica had the pit area set up with BBQ and got to see Andrews new "ride" Painted like Sox and Martin. I really like those 62's. Gary was there and we hate to see him go...He promised my not to join the "other team"??? Dobie was running good. What a great bunch of dedicated Slant6 racers..O Yes,...Who won the finals....Off to get some medicine..later, Wayne/Aric/David

Awww, Gary should join his new regional team! It's all about slant six racing and good friends. I'd just be happy to know he was out there enjoying racing with our slant six friends! :D

So Wayne, your answer as to who won appears to have suffered one of those "senior" moments. All the acceleration and race gas fumes get to you?

Get a Geritol from Glen and see if you wrote the winner's name down somewhere.
Inquiring minds want to know!

Thanks. I wish I could join the other team. But with my engine being yellow and black, well........... Actually, I have many other plans after I move to Douglasville, GA. I am into taking videos of trains, more than classic cars. But who knows? I may show up at a race and take a video someday. We just have to wait and see. First, I have to get back there.

Lots of fun socially this weekenk, the track operated as efficiantly as they ever have and the Sat. barbeque was great.Even the semi pro racers were mingling and inquiring about sl.6,s. Had lunch with king Glen today and he considers himself fortunate to win this one ,I met my goal of hitting 15s with a 15.85 at 3800 feet adj. altitude but apparently too lean on sunday caused a bog off the line that got me,but 2.09 60 foot is good.Pulled the tranny today(lost reverse saturday)and fortunately the damage is only to the rear band, completely wore out ,but pump, clutches all else is ok ,tomorrow clean and reassemble. Will be ready for next weekend at Infinion.

stonethk,
To answer your question those are Mikuni Carbs on a manifold that I built in Jan/Feb this year. I got the flanges from the guy on E-Bay, the rest of the manifold is a piece of 1/4" by 2" flat bar stock. Ceej helped me (using his milling machine with a bi-metal hole saw) cut the holes to fit the tubes into the flat plate, correctly spaced for the carbs.
The rest of the manifold was made using exhaust pipe and mandrel bent exhaust pipe (2 pieces of 180 degree bend, cut in smaller sections as needed) all gas welded construction.

When I got home and checked milage, filled tank in Redding and had just over 1/4 tank showing on gauge when I got home (looks like it has a 18 gallon tank). It took 15.42 gallons to refill and 339 miles, so if you do the math, thats 21.98 miles per gallon. It does have 2.8's in the rear with 205/70 X 15's.

A little late but here are some of the photos I took at the Redding race:

As noted, we had a nice turn-out and had a great camping spot under the trees:

Image
Image

Redding is such a nice track to just plan "hang-out" with good friends:

Image

Lots of good ol' bench racing... and real racing:

Image

Allen, Kristi and I attended the race so that was 3 Dutra cars total.
The 65 Dart convert. doubles as a show car and a race car:

Image

It also "triples" as a motel room! (yes, we camped-out at the track)

Image

Onto racing action...
Here are some shots of the staging lanes:

Image
Image

Andrew's car was looking good and running well:

Image

So was Ronda's car:

Image

I was fighting a new intake that would not take a full throttle "hit":

Image

Those problems lead to a second round loss when I came up against Glen T.

Image

Lots of good racing... here is a father son race with the Ericsons:

Image

My son Allen worked his way into the quarter finals:

Image

Image

The SL6 group was there cheering everyone on:

Image

In the end... we had Glen and Aric Ericson,... Glen took the win

Image

We have another race in Redding this Fall so mke plans to bee there!
