Hello. I'm new to the SL6 forum. I happened onto the forum by finding the truly excellent 833 article. Thanks, guys! Great job!

Two 833 questions:

1) My 833 sometimes has to be forced into 2nd gear, both up and down. Doesn't really grind, just won't go in. There is plenty of clutch disc clearance. Is the problem likely the stop ring? Also, there is a note in the FSM about using #120 emory cloth to rough up the synchronizer cone in the gear when replacing the stop rings. Any opinions on that?

2) Are there any 833 mods that can be made to increase shifting speed.

Thanks,
Ron Evans

What lube is in the box? GL-5 is too slippery. Try Redline MT-90. If that doesn't fix it you'll have to open it up.

Thanks, Joshua.

I found a dealer nearby. It's worth a try.

The slick shift modification to the A833 is for racing only. It involves discarding the syncronizer blocking rings and taking every other tooth out of the clutch sleeves and hubs so you can speed shift the transmission. Unless you are building a dedicated drag car this is Not something you want to do.

Thanks guys.

I'll start with changing the lube, and if that doesn't help I'll change the stop ring and see how it shifts.
