This seems to be the most common carb for the 2bbl intake that comes with the super six set -up for the late 70's to 1980 cars . I just got the whole set-up on line with carb, intake, kick down and air cleaner. All parts from a 79 Volare W/original Super Six package. I'm assuming the 79 and 80 years will match -up with ease...?
It came with a Carter BBD carb but this thing is some sort of a hodge- podge rebuild of sorts. After doing some research online It looks more like a BBD of a 318 and converted. the top end of this carb is worn bad, but the bottom end is tight and working well. Should I try and salvage this carb? Can It be rebuilt? Or should I buy a new or rebuilt carb? Anyone have any advice?

If the bottom end is good what ever you do dont get rid of it. That being said contact SS Dan and get a NOS one. (be patience HE IS OUT OF TOWN FOR A WHILE) You may be able to rebuild yours. Contact Rug Trucker and get pictures to him. He really is good at IDing and working on these BBD's.
Good luck,
Frank

Let me know if I can help. The bottom is tight? Does it have a bent or curled PCV fitting? That would be a /6 tube.

318 carbs will work. I haven't run a super six on any of mine yet. Always have had a 318BBD or 318 2280 Holley. They all have netted me 18-22MPG on the highway @ 80mph with my 198 and 3:23's on the Duster.

Rug Trucker,

It does have a bent PVC fitting I believe. If thats a large fuel line looking deal going into the base then yes I do. If so then i must have a /6 carb so thats good news.

Yes the base is solid, meaning not a lot of slop and rotates well. The top of the carb on the other hand seems very worn. The large butterfly on the top of the carb is sloppy, rattles in place and doesn't seem to fit very well w/ lots of air space around. Also the metering rods are hanging up and preventing it rotating.

That's great news to hear you are getting 18-22 mpg. I've been getting concerned about the gas milage after the super six conversion, but that's about the mpg I'm getting now so good to know.

What converter stall are you running?

What are you calling metering rods?

I have run 4 different 2bbl carbs on my Duster. All were jetted for V8's.
2 differnt Holley's. One from a 84 truck, one unknown, one from a '73 truck. And a Stromberg from a '68 318 Cuda.

IMO there is more MPG available with a super 6
