Just picked up a new mini starter PN 53005984. Converting from an old 1960 starter w/ external solenoid. Anyone have a wiring diagram for this thing?

Thanks in advance.

I would double check the tooth count on the 1960 flywheel, I have info that says the direct drive starter "early" flywheel has more starter teeth, this may cause starter engagement problems with the mini starter. I show the correct tooth count as 122 so count the teeth on yours.
This is a conversion I have never performed so I am interested in what you find.

Eleventy-Seven, Eleventy-Nine. Dang, Doc! I had to take my shoes off to count this one! I'm cross-eyed now, but I got 122, twice. The parts aren't talkin, so this may not be a 1960 flywheel. BUT, I count 122 on mine. Thanks for the info. It would have been a very unpleasant suprise to crash the teeth on the flywheel.

Later,

Gilly

Sorry to put you through that Gilly but as you said, doing the count is easier than changing a chewed-up flywheel. I have a 1960 flywheel for the direct drive starter in my shed, I will have to pull it out and count the teeth. This is good info to add into the clutch / flywheel article, I've seen this issue cause people problems.

As for the wiring, I would say you want the 62 & later starter relay and then the ministarter wires the same as all the other gear reduction MoPar starter systems.
