mine crapped out on the road. left me stuck in Elk City, OK.
it looks like the rotor has dropped to a lower level and the sparks doesn't get to the plug wires.
i pulled the distributor out and there is a lot verticle movement in the shaft. maybe 1/4 inch. there doesn't appear to be any damage down near the drive gear. is there anything under the point plate that could had broken down and caused the extra movement?

Fun stuff! Time for a new distributor. Sounds like a good opportunity to go to electronic ignition, no?

gato,

There is nothing under the plate that will allow that much movement up and down. Sounds like the spring clip below the felt under the rotor may have popped off. It is just a wire clip. I wonder if the Pertronix unit just died? or was hit and damaged? or is not sufficiently grounded?

thanx Ted.
the replacement dizzy didn't have as much movement in it. it turned out the coil crapped out. i saved the old dizzy so i will finally have a spare to play with recurving on.found some helpful people here. we'll finish this ride on the
points and condenser.
