I allready know I am nuts,so dont go there,,,The guzzi car runs a bunch of 8.34s in the 1/8 th,Have tried alot of different combos,8.34period .thinking more gear is the answer for a 7.99.I really want a 7.99.Money is very tight right now and dont know how much longer I can keep the shops doors open, spending $600 on anouther gear set seems dumb when I am worring about rent, then again $600 would only keep the doors open anouther day,When I look at it that way, screw the rent.I am getting the 5.13s and worry about the rest later, think I am a racer at heart, glad I dont have a wife to justify this too,,Please tell me my thinking is kinda correct,Guzzi Mark

Mark, IIRC you already have 4.56 gears, right? Going to 5.13's won't get you your .35, probably closer to .035. I'd save the money and wait for cooler weather.

Slantzilla is right, a small change in gearing isn't going to make much difference in your ET. Save your money. 8.34 is a really impressive time and to get down to 7.99 will be quite a challenge. Like Zilla says wait for an unseasonably cold day when the track is open, richen it up a bit and see what happens. See what ideas Ron Parker has, his car is race only but similar to yours in weight.

My Computech shows it would take about 30 more HP to get down to 8 flat in the eigth. In the quarter your ET would improve about .55 seconds. Thats a bunch. Don't go too fast right away, I still want to try to catch up with where you are now.

$600 worth of nitrous equipment will get you a lot more than 0.35 sec.

2540 lbs car with me in it,cant and wont spray, stock bottom end and stock 60 0ver pistons,10.7 compression,60 ft times 1.76isH, Dyno ,30 runs ago 197 rear wheel hp. When I manually shift the car at 5,800 rpm,my last shift is less than 50 ft from the traps, going tru the traps around 5.200,max hp before a few changes was at 5,400,,,,I quite possibly MIGHT have gotten the most out of this motor,BUTT i want just a little more.Really need a computer literate person at the track to plug in my laptop to read my afr,no one in the LA area is willing to help me out, thats why I am here,Guzzi Mark

I agree also, all four 8.34 runs were when it was over 80 degrees out.Still in my mind 5.13s should get me a few 10ths quicker, currently running 4.56 with 26 in slicks.Thought this combo would put me tru the traps in a quarter at just over 6,000,close to what I THINK is right,1/8 th is what i will run 98% of the time, thinking 5.13s are better for the 1/8th,ANY advice or guiedence wanted,Thanks Mark

I had 4.56 gears with a 26 inch tall tire. and tried using a 22 inch tall tire, about all I gained was more RPM in the lights. Don't remember what the ET difference was, but not much. Doing the tire comparison with a 3.91 gear made more of a difference, but still not as much as you are looking for.

Although it seems like gearing to peak at the eighth would make a big difference, the eighth mile records are not much different than the eighth mile splits on the quarter mile record runs.

So if there is not one change that is going to get you .35 (build that K1 engine  ) then it's going to be a bunch of little changes that get you there...
Problem is always "time & $$$$"
You have been thru everything in the car... at least twice, so it is not going to be easy.

We have run this list before:
-Less weight
-More compression
-Better air flow ( head and header / exhaust work)
-Maximized gearing and traction
-A better "tune" for the track... and the air on that day.

The car has to leave the line hard to ET well but with a 1.7XX 60 ft, it is already leaving pretty good.

Hate to say that you have already nailed the easy improvements...

Hopefully everyone here can keep offering ideas that can get you a "tenth here and a tenth there".
DD

HI Mark-
That 3+ tenths is a bunch to chop off and I don't believe you'll do it with a simple gear change. Assuming you're using a 904 and one probably with 2.45 low gear ratio and not much of a converter, you're probably pushing the limits as it is. If you had 4.86/4.89, change the low gear set from a 2.45 to the 2.74 and tried a looser race-type converter, you MAY be looking at .2-.25 sec reduction but I believe that's pushing it. The gearing change MIGHT net you maybe .1 sec, a very good race converter might get you .1 or possibly .15, the low gear set may get you .05+ sec but if you're looking for more, it'll be in the chassis (depending on what you have and what's done for optimum load transfer) and quite possibly more tuning/modifications to the engine or even a properly built race-type 904 trans with lightweight parts, but they don't come cheaply. With those weight and HP figures, the car should run mid 13s in the qtr which means you're right where you should be in the eighth, maybe even a bit quicker. Best of luck to you...wb

Have you gone to the electric driven water pump, Oil pump, etc?
These will both free up some HP.
Just some thoughts,
Frank
