I just got a slant six 1987 d150 pickup. Four on the floor. I'm loving it. I'm fixing all the little things (1987 shocks, 1987 brake lines etc.) I went to replace the dome light and found a L1004?!

On the metal side of the bulb there are two contacts like an 1157 brake lamp but it only has one filament and the bumps are equal distance from the tip, not staggered like on an 1157. The local car chain store spots don't stock it. I was about to wire up another style socket but instead I bought ten bulbs from rockauto for less than 6 bucks.

Why is this obsolete stuff? 1987!?

I feel much better now.

Well, 1987 *is* 22 years and automotive electrical systems have changed drastically since then. Your typical local parts store will stock items that have a decent inventory turnover so that the sotck stays fresh and they don't have money tied up in unsellable parts. It's good that you were able to get what you needed by mail order.

Growing older is unavoidable but growing up is strictly optional.

But, what is more likely to fail..........

A 22 year old part or a 1 year old part.
