Post subject: gas tank sending unit

Hey former "Listbot" users! My '64' Signet 200 has what I think is a leak around the gas tank sending unit, this started after a fill-up( the car sat out all winter). Is there anything short of replacing the sending unit I can do? And, will it leak regardless of the amount of fuel in the tank?

Pull the unit out and check the rubber gasket. Also check where the pipe goes into the unit. I have seen these break loose, and they can be re-soldered.

The "Dead give-a-way" for a leaking gas tank sending unit is that it stops leaking under 1/2 tank.
As Chuck said, run the tank low then pull-out the sending unit, there are 3 places it can leak from. Be careful removing the rubber hose, it's better to cut the hose then to twist on it hard, strugging to remove the rubber hose is usually what cracks the solder joint, where the metal tube goes through the plate. This crack leak is hard to see and has stumped people so inspect the area closely.
