I am installing an HEI system on my 73 slant I am using a 77 ingition control module I have bypassed the ballast resistor by jumping the start wire to the run wire. When I start the truck thew starter continues to crank and the motor is running off the starter. Has anyone else had this issue and would a diode on the ballast bypass solve this problem? This is the wiring diagram I am using http://duster318.freeservers.com/tech/hei.html I do have a four pin ballast and a five pin ecu and I am currentlty using the stock coil I do have a GM coil ready to I just figured one change at a time. Thanks Jim

I bypassed mine exactely the same way as in the photo on the link. I just unhooked the ballast, and put in a short cable to conect the two wires. I t sounds like the way you have yours wired, the starter solenoid is always reciving power even in the "run" postion.

Yeah, that is what I can't figure out is why I am powering the starter in the run position? I know the start wire is powered only in the start position(key all the forward) and the run wire is only powered with the key in the run position, but when I tie these two wires together I am powering them both all the time this is why I think I need to add a 8amp diode to this bypass wire so the voltage can't feed the start side at the same time as the run. Anyone have any suggestions???

I installed a 6 amp diode all Radio Shack had and the truck is running with no power feed back issues! I am going to install the GM coil know it looks like it will bolt onto the block in the stock MOPAR coil location. I can't wait till the first test drive now if only will stop raining!!!..... Coil is working!!!! now all that is left is draw up a wiring diagram for future reference and make it look pretty for tomorrows show!!
