bigslant6fan,

The MOPAR distributor spring kit came today. I had hoped that one day someone would provide a stock spring kit.

Some how you have managed to replicate the stock springs perfectly.
The distributor spring chart you sent should be a great guide and tuning tool.

Thank you very, very much! They look great! :D :D :D

I am wishing it wasn't raining out so I could do some testing....

bigslant6fan,

I just retrieved my kit from the mail box this clear dry Saturday. Nice, nice stuff. Thanks.

The graph accompanying the springs, shows degrees crankshaft vs. rpm. Would one plot his initial advance degrees and slide over to the right to required rpm for the mechanical advance to kick in, and use that color spring? Do I have this right?

What's the source of this spring kit? My reading has been hit and miss lately... did I miss something?

dakight,

No hit and miss, just PM "bigslant6fan" and order the kit.
Charlie has 50 kits!

Yes, that is right. Then double check with your timing light to confirm.

I get it, I think:

Single color listed on graph is just primary spring; two spring colors = Primary & Secondary spring combination.

Correct.

I would only work with one spring at a time, on the primary side only.

Did you get rid of some of the clatter when you re-lashed the valves?

Well, yes & no. Tightened up exhaust, but loosened the intakes some more so it is about the same. However the car idles lower around 900 with a nice lope that caused most every one that hears it to ask if I have a 340... I don't know who is more disappointed me for not having one, or the dope that cant discern the song of a six form a V8...

Still haven't played with springs yet. I was only going to change out the primary spring, just wanted to fully understand the chart.

I'd suggest measuring the advance slots and welding the outboard sides if it's wider than 0.400.This will limit mechanical advance to about 20 degrees total. Then you can set your idle timing to 10-12 BTC and have 32BTC at high speed. You can use acid core solder to weld the slots, but it may pound out in 20-30,000 miles because it's softer than brazing.
