This has been a recurring problem for a while now, but every time I go to fix it, the darn thing works just fine.

My '64 Valiant's temp and fuel gauge work and fail in unison regularly. Sometimes they'll work the whole day. Sometimes they won't work at all for a day. Sometimes they'll start working, fail, and restart like nothing was ever wrong after I restart the engine.

I read Chuck River's article here about the regulator and failing gauges, but it seems this is a fix for when they break and stay broken.

Is this the same problem, or could something more sinister be afoot?

Thanks!

(I should also mention that all the connections have been checked and are in order.)

Typical symptoms.

If you don't want to build the regulator, I have a gas gauge that you can have for the price of shipping. It came on a cluster I bought for the bezel, so I don't need it. PM me if interested.

Thanks for the generous offer. I actually have a spare gas gauge now that I think about it. I guess I can give that one a try if that's the likely problem.

I'll keep you in mind if everything else goes wrong, though. I have no idea if the spare is any good either. Thanks again!
