Hello, i just bought a chrome air breather for my 84 ram, it has the electronic fuel system thing on the original air breather, what do i need to do to remove that and just run a regular breather? what do i need to do with the vacuum and electrical lines, do i need to replace the fuel pump? will i gain horsepower from a less restricted cleaner, or lose it from removing the electronic fuel system? any help please?

thanks
mike

three opitions i can think of:
1 get the earlier electronic ingion and carb
2 find an 85 or later and get the control boxwiring/hoses in under drivers side fender
3 just put chrome cover on

By all means DITCH the leanburn/computer setup, that is IF you can legally do that where you live,ie smog rules and regulations.
That being said you would need an earlier dizzy/ecm/ballast/wiring,also an eariler non-feedback carb.If you're going to upgrade to supersix you'll be needing a two barrel carb anyway so might be a good time for that part of change over as well. Best check your smog laws before anything else. The fuel pump shouldn't be an issue,Good luck

smog isnt an issue, friday im off school, so ill go visit the local grave yard and see about pulling a super 6 setup and rebuild the carb this weekend, will give me something to do :) Yea, i had a 75 dart custom that was pretty basic, this lean burn crap is all new to me, roddin out the dart was a piece of cake, i had headers, dual webber 2bbl carbs, and a few other mods on that, and plan on doing the same to the truck, if i can just figure out that pos electronic thing on the breather that makes no sense to me and looks pretty useless, lol was just wondering if i could rip it off and plug the vacuum lines and run the chrome breather, but we'll see what the weekend brings me. Got some bondoing to do on the body, and a floor pan to replace too, and white lightning will really start to come alive ;)
