my BBD ssems to be the source of my trouble on mr "Road trip form Hell".
i have it all broken down on the bench. seems the bushings i had put into the base plate have worn out already.
is that normal? is that too quik? maybe they used bushings that were too soft?


aside from that, i have 2 spares to work with. one i have gone thru already. it seems to be from a different application. i suspect an older one. it has a large spout for a vent tube above the meter rods. anybody know offhand what app this design was used for? is it an acceptable replacement for a slant 6, 225?

one of the 3 has the hole in the choke plate. the other 2 don't. which is it that's correct for the slant?

What material are (were) the bushings you installed? Properly-installed bushings of an appropriate material should last many years. The carb bowl vent tube is present on some '70-up carburetors; other than that not enough detail to know what you've got.

i had the bushings put in at a local carb rebuilder. i took the shaft and the bash plate in and he made it fit real nice.

SSD. . . .
the bushings are the color of brass. i haven't had an analysis of the metalurgy done.
thx for the offer of the "new" carb but i think not. i'd like to put a brans spanking new weber on the OBD but the 225 is 19 years old now. the compression is on the low side but still all even. when i wear it out completely i'll be looking for the Weber.

sorry about the scanty info. haven't taken any pics of that carb. don't have a photobucket yet. where would such a vent tune be routed to?
open to the atmosphere?

possibly my throttle cable is pulling it wrong?it looks ok but maybe the geometry is off?

i have this carb in a '68 A108 van. they never had the 2bbl in them. the original Holley 1bbl had a small vent hole on the top. it had no vent tube.

which is the correct choke plate for the slant? with the hole, or without?

Don't worry about the hole in the choke plate; it's not a question of "correct" or "incorrect". Either works, it varies by carb.

Yes, on a '68 you'd leave the vent tube open to atmosphere.
